The theme is usually a little clearer on my posts, so for some background, when I grew up in Grass Valley, there was a very cool radio station, KVMR. I used to listen to it when I was growing up. At the time they had a lot of eclectic radio shows, and I still have one or two tapes of music recorded off of there. I’m not sure if they are still as cool or not, but they have a live feed here. When I tuned in, they seemed to be playing Star Wars for some reason.
Anyways, the three songs in this post were all ones I remember hearing on KVMR a long time ago (all seem to be from the 70’s as well):
Magic To Do – Pippin
This is the opening song to the musical, Pippin, which I have to admit not having watched. I really should rectify that at some point. The opening for the show is entertaining enough, though.
Cruisin’ – Michael Nesmith
This video is why I marked this post as non-work safe, though it’s mainly for his bizarre choice in having a guy pull up his underwear in the opening. I enjoy the song; as far as the video, keep in mind this is one of the first music videos done. It’s fun, for all that. I do tend to enjoy things that go over the top a little too much…
(Remember the Days of) The Old Schoolyard – Cat Stevens
This song is the last Cat Stevens song; the one before he changed his name to Yusuf Islam, and went all Muslim. Sappy, yes, but then, I often end up liking that kind of thing. Besides which, I always have liked Cat Stevens music; and I’m also a fan of the movie Harold & Maude, for which the entire soundtrack was by Cat Stevens. This song is a duet with Elkie Brooks, btw, though she doesn’t appear to be the one in the video.
Other songs I thought of putting here, incidentally, were “Listen To The Sound”, by the Dillards, and “The Pride of Petrovar”, by Ian & Silvia. One wasn’t on youtube; the other didn’t have a youtube video I cared for.
