Nina Hagen

Posted by shanoah on June 11, 2010

I thought I’d get away from anime for a minute, and play some songs by a lady named Nina Hagen.

First, here’s a song called Hold Me, with a music video at Jim Morrison’s grave. The line that sticks out in my mind is “I can’t sing a gospel, I’m a white chick…”.

You may think she is somewhat strange after watching that video. And you’d be wrong. She isn’t just somewhat strange, she’s probably the queen of strange. Here is Nina singing Naturträne live at Rockpalast in her native German.

Don’t expect me to explain the pacifiers hanging from her ears, the verging on inhuman shapes her mouth seems to distort into occasionally, or the fact that she’s clucking like a chicken by the end of the song.

That’s half the fun of it.

Neko Miko Reimu

Posted by shanoah on May 1, 2010

I’ve been rather busy the past couple weeks, and have been doing a shift 12 hours off from my normal shift, so haven’t really felt like posting anything.

I should be back to a more normal shift tomorrow, even if it is 5×8 rather then 4×10, so we’ll see how that goes.

In the meantime, here is one of those crazy IOSYS songs, Neko Mike Reimu. Enjoy!

Banshees in your stream of conciousness

Posted by shanoah on April 14, 2010

Today’s my birthday, but I’m sort of spreading it out over a few days, so nothing really too related to that in this post.

There were two songs I was going to post here today, though.

First, here is Stream of Conciousness, by Gabriel Ananda. This track really builds nicely. The video goes with it pretty well, too.

And if you recall my posting the song Peacebone a while back, by Animal Collective, here’s another song by them, titled Banshee Beat.

Shuggoth on the Roof

Posted by shanoah on April 2, 2010

Someone seems to have done a full parody of Fiddler on the Roof as Shuggoth on the Roof.

Cthulhu, tentacles, and Arkham, all set to music. Seems pretty well done, too. Here’s a song entitled Tentacles, which gives a fair overview of Arkham:

And here is the song If I Were a Deep One. Nice parody of If I were a Rich Man. Love the lines where he is singing ‘blub blub blub’ so seriously…:

Brain Damage

Posted by shanoah on March 20, 2010

Well, you know, if people try to eat your brains, you’re likely to end up with Brain Damage. 🙂

Which, of course, brings us back to Pink Floyd. As it happens, I have played Brain Damage on the blog before, but that was back in 2008, so I think I can risk repeating it. Besides, that was with Douglas Adams, and this is a different concert, so it’s more as you’d normally hear it.

Mother *uckers

Posted by shanoah on March 19, 2010

Well, this theme seems to be going from a mother tribute theme to a mother *ucking theme, so, as such, I thought I’d contribute this song. The unforgettable duo, Flight of the Conchords, came up with a song with the name Mother *uckers that I thought would be appropriate. Or inappropriate, as the case may be.

Lots of amusing things going on in this video. But there always are with these guys. Video courtesy of Reasonist42, btw.

Don’t Come Around Here No More

Posted by shanoah on March 2, 2010

Totally agreed. Shut them down. Or at least tell them not to come around here any more.

And this music video is proof that Tom Petty is a very strange person. But I’m all about the Alice and Wonderland motif.

Fortunately, at work I sit right by someone who agrees with me on many of these issues, so I don’t have to deal with my co-workers too much on this. And I do still stand by my decision to vote for Obama, simply because McCain was freaky. (And would have done the same thing, unfortunately).

Might even vote for Obama next presidential election, if he’s going up against Palin. But that isn’t saying much. I get fed up with the politicians we’re supposed to choose from. They all seem the same. And none of them want to protect your freedom, or the ideals in the constitution and the bill of rights.

Just lots of people pushing you around, and everyone wanting a piece of you. Much like this music video, actually.

Taxman, Mr. Thief

Posted by shanoah on February 19, 2010

Yeah, you don’t really have to post about the guy going after the IRS if you don’t feel like it.

And I don’t have to post about the current government of Iceland proposing legislation that’ll turn it into a haven for free speech and journalists, after being really badly hit by the economy, including rioting, bankruptcy, and the government collapsing[1]. Even if I do find it interesting and somewhat encouraging.

However, the talk of the IRS does bring to mind a song. Two, actually, but I’m sure I’ve played the one by the Beatles before. So here is Cheap Trick’s ‘Taxman, Mr. Thief’. Which clearly has a reference to the first song in the title anyways (and in more then one place in the song).

And now I want to pronounce Mr. Lif to rhyme with Mr. Thief. Wonder if that’s actually the right way to say it or not? Eh, who knows? In any case, here is the song:

[1] Presumably it’s either recovered, or a new government is proposing the laws…

Alice -> Sweet

Posted by shanoah on February 17, 2010

It’s not related to U2. It’s not related to The Knack. It’s… IOSYS : The Return.

I’ve been playing one particular catchy IOSYS song (Alice -> Sweet) a bunch recently, and was just noticing that I never posted it. Not sure if this was due to matters of good taste, but I’ll rectify that now. You’ll note that this has both English translations and the original lyrics in romanji. Nice if you are trying to learn Japanese.

Oddly, I’m almost certain the line about fingertips being “bound by fate” in the translation is a reference to the “red string of fate“. The things I learn about by watching Ranma 1/2…

Now, you heard how prominent the singers lyrics were in that song. What do you think it would sound like without vocals? Very different, certainly. Take a listen.

House At Pooneil Corners

Posted by shanoah on February 15, 2010

And we interrupt this catgirl hentai to bring you Jefferson Airplane, playing live from a rooftop in Manhattan.

The song is House At Pooneil Corners, an absolutely classic track from Crown of Creation, which is one of their better albums anyways. It’s just disappointing when the police show up to break the thing up. This was filmed in 1968 by French movie director Jean-Luc Godard.
