Sure it’s old-school, Sean, but these days it becomes retro-gaming, and ramps up the cool factor again. I play far more old games then modern ones.
For example, the SNES had plenty of RPGs, and is emulated just as easily as the NES.[1] And it had one of the coolest computer RPGs of all time, Chrono Trigger. A game that was the result of a collaboration between Squaresoft & Enix well before the two companies merged, and one that was popular enough that they ported it over to the PS1, and added cool anime cutscenes. Here’s the opening:

(Yes, the animation style is very Dragonball Z style). This is a bunch of them edited together to give a fair impression of the game:

and did I mention how great the soundtrack was?
Schala’s Theme – Chrono Trigger
I’ve also been known to play old 68k Mac games with BasiliskII, like Taskmaker,[2] old (and new) interactive fiction (text adventures), and of course, I play classic LucasArts games with ScummVm. One that comes to mind when thinking of videogame music is this scene from Monkey Island 3:
A Pirate I Was Meant To Be
One of the few music scenes where you are supposed to choose the next line. And, as you can see, he did exactly what I always did, and saved the line that would stop the song for last. 🙂
