4-27-09 Ho! Haha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! THRUST!

Well, while we’ve gotten onto the subject of romanticized outlaws, we can’t neglect the most romanticized and idealized outlaw of all, Robin Hood. He has been the subject of stories, songs, films, comic books and even an animated cartoon or nineteen. But I think I like this interpretation of the Robin Hood myth the best.

This of course, is 1958’s Robin Hood Daffy, courtesy of SuperCartoon.

Pinky und der Brain

Posted by shanoah on February 5, 2009

Well, I’m not totally sure where to go from Tiny Tim, so today, I just thought I’d post openings from a few cartoons in German. Just because I like watching what other languages do with these things:

Inspecteur Gadget

What I find interesting about this one is that the original had almost no words to it. “Inspector Gadget” and “Go, Gadget Go!”. Makes me wonder what they are singing about in this one…

Pinky und der Brain

As if the original wasn’t catchy enough. German and mad scientist go hand and hand, so this really works for me.

Teenage Mutant “Hero” Turtles

Yes, this is cheesy. I cracked up when watching it. I could see translating the title, but just replacing Ninja with Hero seems strange…

Of Mice and Moles

Posted by shanoah on August 18, 2008

That actually does match up nicely, and the scene with the oysters was taking me back to Alice in Wonderland.

Don’t have much time today, so I’m just going to present you with a selection from a series of Czechoslovakian cartoons by artist Zdenek Miler involving a Mole and a Mouse.

They may be aimed at children, but with the style they are done in, I’m thinking of them more as art films then anything.

Krtek a Muzika (The Mole and the Music)

The mix track lives. That’s one cool looking record at the end.

Krtek Malirem (The Mole as a Painter)

This one is great just for the surreal landscapes that get set up, even if they went a little far in their revenge on the fox.

Krtek Fotografem (The Mole as a Photographer)

And here is how he fares as a photographer.
