4-16-09 The Atomic Swindlers – Float (My Electric Stargirl)

Posted by Sean on April 16, 2009

What, you mean the RIAA is choking off creativity and the free flow of music, art and information? Naw! Get outta town, Shanoah! That’s crazy talk!

Anyway, thank God Tax Day is over, and not just for the obvious reasons. That’s why I don’t like to write about politics. I turn, Dr. Jekyll-like, into Yet Another Obnoxious Opinionated Asshole [1].

Citizen: I have a strong opinion on current events.
WHOOSH!
Yet Another Obnoxious Opinionated Asshole: Your opinion is different from mine! You are a fucktard!
WHOOSH!
Citizen: Thank you for incrementally lowering the standards and level of civility in public discourse, Yet Another Obnoxious Opinionated Asshole!

Anyhoo, back to music. I was cruising YouTube last week, playing some of the videos that I’ve posted, specifically KID606’s The Illness, and I find out that it was made by a freelance animator named Joel Trussell.

Well, turns out that Trussell has a lot of fans on YouTube, so he has quite a body of work there. And if you haven’t noticed from The Illness, he’s quite… imaginative. Just take a gander at the summary that Abacus put up for  his video for The Atomic Swindlers’ Float (My Electric Stargirl).

A black-market ring of pirates has shanghaied the nubile companion of our rogue space mercenary. Now she will stop at nothing to track down the key to their underground compound– using everything from electrocuting butterflies, stolen explosives, even her devoted robo-owl. It is truly a race against time as the pirates disassemble their captured slaves for mysterious purposes. It will be up to skill, instinct and every dirty little trick in her book for our heroine to reunite with her counterpart and crush the pirates’ dark operation.

I would never have come up with anything like that for this song, not if you fed me psilocybin, acid and crank without relief for a week. Robot owls with laser eyes and a handy dash lighter? Butterflies that electrocute people? Black knight space motorcycles? Bad guys who disassemble nubile androids because, well, whatever? Sure! Why not!

[1] Kinda like you teabaggers, I understand. 😛
