You don't like that, do you, Mr. Undead Marine! RRRRRR!'"

3-17-09 RíRá and Íarla Ó’Lionáird – Knuckles to the Marrow

Posted by Sean on March 17, 2009

I refuse to be manipulated by your Fraggle Rock theme siren song, Shanoah! Instead, I will be manipulated by a completely commercialized religious festival that most people have forgotten the significance of, but they celebrate it anyway!

No, I don’t mean Christmas or Election Day. I mean St. Patrick’s Day!

You didn’t know this was a religious holiday, did you? Well, it’s the feast day of St. Patrick and a holy day of obligation which means (trust me, I was raised Catholic and I know this) that you’re supposed to be in church. And instead you’re drinking green beer and groping a blonde in a t-shirt that reads “Kiss My Shamrocks”. Won’t God be pleased.

Anyway, it wouldn’t be St. Paddy’s Day if we didn’t have some Irish music now, don’ cha knooooooooooow. But instead of the Quiet Man and Angela’s Ashes and Riverdance Paddywhackery infesting the culture as of late, how about something a little more… I don’t know, honest? Brutal? Just plain weird? Because I really don’t know what to call Knuckles to the Marrow, by RíRá and Íarla Ó’Lionáird for the 1999 film I Could Read The Sky (IMDB entry here), except that it’s cool.

Oh, and if you think you’ve seen the name RíRá here before, well, maybe you have.
