3-9-09 Jiri Barta – The Golem

Posted by Sean on March 9, 2009

Well, if we’re talking about that Cruella de Vil, then that can mean only one thing: more weird animation! Whee!

And I’ve found a doozy for you. It comes to us courtesy of Niffiwan, who also did the subtitling for The Cat Who Walked By Herself.

Back in 1996, Czech animator Jirí Barta made a preview short for a  proposed feature length film called Golem. It doesn’t look like he got the funding for it (the sad story, written way back in 2002, is here at Kinoeye).

It’s a shame, too. Barta’s done things with claymation in Golem that I’ve honestly never seen done before. Here’s hoping he gets the money to do this movie full-bore someday.
