Ranma 1/2 Themes

Posted by shanoah on February 11, 2009

All right, we can go with anime themes for a bit. And one of my favorite animes as far as opening and closing music is Ranma 1/2. (Note the phrase “one of”. Tenchi Muyo beats it out, IMO, and there are others in the running.)

So here we have the english version of the 2nd oav ending theme. I could have played the Japanese version, but I happen to be very fond of this version:

Red Shoe Sunday (Akai Kutsu no SUNDAY)

The hook for me on this song is probably Shampoo singing the opening in her broken english (“up in blue sky silly blimp go by”). And the voice actress can sing in proper English. But Shampoo is from China and speaks broken Japanese, so in the English translation…

Wo De Airen

This one, on the other hand, while still sung by Shampoo (Xiam Pu, technically, if you’re curious), was never officially brought to America. This is a bit of a melancholy one; I expect it is supposed to be after the series was over, and Ranma getting together with Akane was almost a given with the way the series ended, even though it didn’t technically happen in the course of the series.

Little Date

And yet another Ranma 1/2 opening, the second one. Nice catchy theme, not that Ranma 1/2 is lacking in catchy themes. (And the video does have the singers, though I grabbed this version because it was the full length version)

Oh, and incidentally, all the above songs are either sung by DoCo or DoCo USA. Yes, there are no less then two official Ranma 1/2 bands, the original and the english version…
