2-11-09 The Seatbelts – Tank!

Posted by Sean on February 11, 2009

Well, if we’re going to do Japanimation themes, we’d be remiss without including one of the best themes from one of the best anime series going: Tank! from Cowboy Bebop, by Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts (a band in the Cowboy Bebop universe that is so named, according to Wikipedia (so you know it’s wrong) “from how the performers wear seatbelts to be safe while they play hardcore jam sessions”. Now that’s hot jazz).

It’s one of those opening sequences where opening graphics and music mesh perfectly, with its chaotic Peter Gunn-esque soundtrack and graphics that recall 1950’s typography experiments. Even if Cowboy Bebop was a steaming magical girl turd burger slathered in dysentery sauce – and it most certainly is not – it would still be memorable for this opening sequence. As it is, this pulp detective opening just enhances the space bounty hunter goodness.

Courtest of pr0pr0.
