2-9-09 Charles Gounod by way of Eric Fonseca – Funeral March for a Marionette

Posted by Sean on February 9, 2009

Well, I just got back from seeing Coraline.

  • Cons: Predictable, by-the-numbers Campbellian Hero’s Journey plot, complete with an old crone – or pair of old crones, in this case – dishing out magical talismans for no good reason
  • Pros: Sure to scare the shit out of kids, which is a good thing

And since we’re back on the subject of puppets (NOOOOOOOO!), it seems appropriate, after wading in stop motion goodness, to throw up some stop motion animation on this blog. Eric Fonseca‘s Funeral March for a Marionette, based on the Charles Gounod orchestral piece,  has the added bonus of hitting the trifecta of creepiness, with:

  • Stop motion animation,
  • marionettes,
  • and puppet funerals.

You could call it a quadfecta, cos Fonseca’s also done a stop motion adaptation of that family values classic, The Fall of the House of Usher. But that’s for a different day heh heh heh heh heh AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
