    Sean Daily is an English major from New Jersey now living in Las Vegas, the Other City of Lights. 1-13-09 Jossie Mallis – Bendito Machine

And since the conversation has somehow and suddenly turned to making fun of organized religion, here’s something that I’ve been waiting for an excuse to post.

This is Bendito Machine by Jossie Mallis, winner of 2006 Aniboom Awards. I’m not 100% sure what it means. But I like its style: how one side of the hill can only prosper at the expense of the other; how the characters worship these huge incomprehensible alien machines; how the old god rises up from the ashes of the destroyed side of the hill to lay waste to the interlopers; and how the god machine keeps going, not even noticing that everyone is dead. That kind of stuff just tickles the yawning hollow space where my dead cynical heart use to be.
