Sean Daily is an English major from New Jersey now living in Las Vegas, the Other City of Lights. "I consider 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' to be comfort reading, I like the al pastor tacos at Tacos Mexico and I count among my literary influences the Chainsaw from 'Doom'. 'RRRRRR! You don't like that, do you, Mr. Undead Marine! RRRRRR!'"

Shanoah Alkire is our Discordian at large. "Born in Santa Cruz, I grew up in Grass Valley and the Bay Area, and now lurk in Las Vegas. My literary influences include Ray Bradbury, Lewis Carroll, and Douglas Adams. I also program as a hobby, and currently maintain the Gtk port of Angband. You can find a rather old bio of me here."

1-6-08 Little Dragon – Twice

Posted by Sean on January 6, 2009

Zombies singing how they’re just dust in the wind. How… wildly inappropriate. Which of course makes it wildly appropriate.

But I’m afraid I’m going to have to break the thread, Shanoah, or at least the dead and decaying bit of the thread. I’m just not in a snarky mood today.

I do want to continue the puppetry bit, though. Maybe it’s the gnostic in me, I don’t know. So here’s a genre of puppetry that doesn’t get nearly enough press: shadow puppetry. It’s a video for Swedish band Little Dragon’s Twice, off their 2007 self-titled debut, and directed by Swedish filmmaker Johannes Nyholm (site here).

And no, I have no idea what it’s about, beyond the timeless girl-meets-bird, girl-breaks-up-with-bird, girl-maybe-dies-in-her-sleep-and-meets-grateful-dead-skeleton motif. It’s a low-tech and low-budget bit of cinema cleverly done, and you know the thing I have for that.

Oh, and don’t worry. I’ll be back to my old East Coast hip and sardonic self again… sometime. Just not right now.
