The Carribean

Posted by shanoah on December 5, 2008

Well, you know, Sean, I’ve got no problem with taking our posts to Jamaica. Or the whole Carribean. As such, let’s play a couple Carribean songs, all of which can be found on the cd “Putomuyo Kids: Carribean Playground”. I don’t care if it’s aimed at kids; I love all of Puyomuyo’s collection cds, and this is no exception.

So, let’s get on a great big boat…

Great Big Boat – Taj Mahal & the Hula Blues Band

See, Sean, we’re not that far from Mexico after all! That was just a stop along the way.

Little Anansi – Asheba

Now for a song fom Trinidad. And yes, this song is about Anansi, god of trickery, who also had a cameo in Neil Gaimans “American Gods”, and given that the sequel is named “Anansi Boys”, you can guess what that was about. Good books, incidentally.

Jamaica Farewell – Desmond Dekker

Well, we all have to leave sooner or later, so what better way to leave this post then with Jamaica Farewell.

Now, if you were paying attention, you might have noticed that all these songs were posted to youtube by rainforestmaiden. I highly reccommend you check out her Carribean Music Channel for more Carribean music. But then, I also reccommend buying the Puyomuyo cd this was on, and some of their other stuff, like their cd with all those international covers of american songs I posted about once, so what do I know?
