12-3-08 Jello Biafra and the Dead Kennedys – Holiday in Cambodia
Posted by Sean on December 3, 2008
Well, continuing our drunken stagger through pop culture today, here’s a nice discordant wrench from Tom Lehrer: Holiday in Cambodia, off of 1980’s Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. God, I love this song, if only for those jingle-jangle guitars. I mean, who knew surf rock could be so damn political?
This footage was shot live at Target Studios, with Jello Biafra as a zygote, and the guitars sound even better here than on the studio-produced album. It’s interspersed with footage from what I hope is The Killing Fields. Some of it, alas, probably isn’t.
(And yes, I’ve had Holiday in Cambodia here and here before. So sue me. You can’t. Neener neener neener)

And speaking of cognitive dissonance… here’s a video someone put together of Holiday in Cambodia on, of all things, Guitar Hero 3.
Let me repeat that, for those of you who think you read that wrong.
