11-17-08 The Prunes of TOMORROW!

Posted by Sean on November 17, 2008

Well, Shanoah, I’ll probably have to apologize profusely to you the next time I see you for this, but…

I typed “Ray Bradbury” into YouTube’s search engine, and I got something I thought I’d never see: Bradbury shucking for Sunsweet Prunes. It’s actually a pretty funny TV commercial, made with tounge fimrly planted in cheek, and somehow manages the seemingly insurmountable gap between dried plums and (cue theremin: ooWEEEEEEEEEyoooo) THE FUTURE!

I don’t know if I like this future, though. Between the plastic furniture, the wall-to-wall telescreens (“Remember, Comrade, Ray Bradbury is watching you”) and the apparent outlawing of every color besides white (every other color was lost during World War IX and the administration of President Charlton Heston’s Brain), it seems a bit… un-Bradburyish.
