11-11-08 I want what she’s smoking

Posted by Sean on November 11, 2008

Well, looks like we’re going to be on odd commercials for a while. Now, I could go overseas, possibly to Europe or Japan, for a weird commercial.

But why should I, when there’s plenty of hysteria weirdness here in the United States from which to choose? So I’ll just post this corker of an anti-drug commercial from the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign.[1]

Okay, couple little problems with this commercial (besides the fact that the producers seem to imply that “weed” is an hallucinogenic drug, which it is most assuredly is not) (and that even if it was hallucinogenic, the stuff available to the hoi polloi in the United States is too crappy to induce any kind of hallucinations). Did anybody at the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign think that maybe a through-the-looking-glass moment with a talking dog wouldn’t be the best choice for an anti-drug commercial? Can’t you hear kids across the nation seeing this commercial and saying, “Dude! Your dog talks to you if you smoke marijuana? I want what she’s smoking!”

[1] The National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign are the same fine opportunistic folks who told us, right after the World Trade Center attacks, that illegal drugs support terrorism. Haven’t heard that little gem lately…
