10-21-08 Cocteau Twins – Carolyn’s Fingers

Posted by Sean on October 21, 2008

Well, Shanoah (casting around desperately for a bridge to your post)… erm… uhm… Well, Bob Dylan has a very distinctive voice.

So does Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins. You rarely hear a colortura soprano trilling and giving her vocal chords a workout in popular music nowadays. That’s a shame, because it takes me places that most pop music promise, time and again, but never deliver.

“C’mon, man, just one more hit! You’ll kiss God this time, I swear. You’re my favorite customer. Would I Lie To You?”

Heard Carolyn’s Fingers on Irene Trudel‘s show on WFMU yesterday. I can’t say I’ve ever listened to Cocteau Twins before, a mistake I’ll have to rectify.
