You don't like that, do you, Mr. Undead Marine! RRRRRR!'"

10-19-08 The Tired City

Posted by Sean on October 19, 2008

Going to work, eh, Shanoah? Speaking of which…

I’m writing this late Sunday night, just before going back to work at my horrible job. Now, it’s not as bad as that of the unnamed protagonist in The Tired City, but I can certainly sympathize with her plight.

She (the creators only refer to her as “she”) is childlike, but only in the best possible ways. She shows a childlike dedication both to her job and to the flower that she keeps in her desk. When it starts to wilt, she cries over it like a little girl weeping over a dead pet. The exhaustion from her workload brings on hallucinations of a simpler, pastoral life and a heartbreaking -and ironic – denouement.

The Tired City was made by Postgals and is courtesy of the 14th Annual Independent Short Film & Video Awards in Hong Kong.
