Sean Daily is an English major from New Jersey now living in Las Vegas, the Other City of Lights. "I consider 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' to be comfort reading, I like the al pastor tacos at Tacos Mexico and I count among my literary influences the Chainsaw from 'Doom'. 'RRRRRR! You don't like that, do you, Mr. Undead Marine! RRRRRR!'"

Shanoah Alkire is our Discordian at large. "Born in Santa Cruz, I grew up in Grass Valley and the Bay Area, and now lurk in Las Vegas. 10-10-08 Joni Minstrel – Whiskey and Beer

Posted by Sean on October 10, 2008

Speaking of musicians we both like, Shanoah… heh heh heh…

The Las Vegas Big Outdoor Shopping Mall With Swords Age of Chivalry Renaissance Festival is in town. And, despite my geek cred (writing a comic book and an RPG system, buffs fingernails on lapel), I have a tough time getting myself worked up for it. Perhaps it’s my Joisey roots. I probably would have been the only person at the construction of Camelot chanting, “UNION! UNION! UNION!”

“Sooooo, let me get this straight. You want me to doff my hat, bow, scrape and generally demean myself whenever I see some fascist motherfucker with a sword come rollin’ heavy past me? Mm hmm. Little history quiz for ya, Sparky, you seem to like history so much… Ever hear of the Battle of Lexington? The ‘shot heard ’round the world’? Valley Forge? The Declaration of independence? Didn’t think so. No, you have your fun. Don’t mind me. I’ll be over here inciting the peasants to riot.”

Yes, I’m a little East Coast sensitive. With this kind of bullshit running loose in the world today… oh hell yes, I’m a little East Coast sensitive.

I like to think that Joni Minstrel, self-styled Village Protest Singer of the Georgia Renaissance Festival, would agree with me. You’ve seen and heard her here before, of course. But with Ye Olde Badlye Misspellede Ren Faire – Now With 25% MORE Superfluous Silent E’s! – coming up, she bears repeating.

And when you’re done, throw a ten-spot her and the revolution’s way at CD Baby.

Whiskey and beer will conquer our fear
Whiskey and beer are needed right here
To start a revolution takes courage and spunk
To start a revolution it helps to be drunk
