No sign of a post from Sean yet, so I think I’ll go off on the tangent that I was hoping to go on from my second to last post.

So here’s to pirates! Ever noticed how many songs and things about pirates there seem to be lately? Of course, a lot of it is due to Pirates of the Carrabean. There were no less then two Captain Jack Sparrows at the last renfaire I was at. And he isn’t even period…

Of course, most of what we see and hear about pirates is bosh. They weren’t romantic, and certainly didn’t talk with a Westchester accent, unless they came from Westchester.

But it’s not about reality. It’s about dreams, and imagination and the things that make us human. And plundering, wenching, and the high seas, of course.

So, with that in mind, I thought I’d play a few pirate songs. More comedic then not, but then, a lot of songs about pirates are:

Dark Lady – Bedlam Bards

This song was written by Bernadette Gillece, now known as Ek Ong Kaar Kaur. Beautiful song off a cd I own called Furious Fancies, by the Bedlam Bards. Ghost ships, and jealousy aren’t a good combination…

This and “Amarillis’ Secret” are my absolute favorite songs from that cd, in fact. The latter is absolutely haunting, spellbinding, and depressing, and I wish it was on Youtube so I could play it here.

You can hear a clip of it on the cd’s cdbaby page, though.

Oh well, on to lighter fare:

The Worst Pirate Song – Ceann

This silly song is all about the reasons why he doesn’t think someone could be a pirate, ending with what I’m sure he thinks is the real reason – that’s shes a girl.

Not a position I agree with, BTW. If someone is going to hold me at swordpoint and demand all my money, I’d rather it was an attractive lady, really…

Ray Stevens “The Pirate Song” by Marty Berk

I’m not sure what there is to say about this song, other then:

I want to sing and dance, I want to sing and dance
I want to be a pirate in the Pirates of Penzance
Wear me silver-buckled slippers and me tight shiny pants
I want to sing and dance
