You don't like that, do you, Mr. Undead Marine! RRRRRR!'"

7-7-08 Jon Lajoie – Everyday Normal Guy

Posted by Sean on July 7, 2008

One of the reasons that I stopped listening to the hip-hop stations in Las Vegas is that, like the Top 40 stations, all the songs started to sound the same.  You had your female singers trying very hard to sound like Aretha Franklin and sometimes succeeding; you had your ultra-aggressive OGs suffering through the final stages of testosterone toxicity, singing how they had to fight off the women with a stick and could kick the ass of, at the very minimum, Superman; you had the Dr. Dre remix of California Love, which they never played enough of; and… that was kind of it.

So I must thank my friend Justin for putting me on the scent of Everyday Normal Guy, by comedian Jon Lajoie (Web site here). Now, I don’t know if popular hip-hop’s gotten any better, but I’m guessing it hasn’t if Lajoie felt compelled to come out with this song. The lyrics are absolutely inspired:

“When I go to the clubs I wait in line, mothafucka!”
“I work in customer service for a phone company/I make 12 bucks an hour but that’s all I need”
“I can’t afford a car I use public transportation/I don’t mind, I read ’till I reach my destination”
“And I’m not very good with the women/I’m a pretty shy person and I’m average lookin'”

By the way, you can download this song for free at Lajoie’s Web site.
