7-2-08 Birthday Greetings from Joe Cocker

Posted by Sean on July 2, 2008

Not much time today, so I was casting around for something, anything to write about, when a co-worker sent me a link to something called Birthday Greetings from Joe Cocker, by jakepride (site here).

Now, I love Cocker’s rendition of the Beatles’ With a Little Help from My Friends. But I had no idea until now just how… incoherent Cocker is during the song. jakepride, who turns out to be video producer, graphic designer and writer Jared Pike, helpfully provides close captioning “for the clear-headed”.

This is footage of him at Woodstock when, to be fair, almost no one was sober and rational. Cocker’s okay until about 0:31. Then whatever he’s on (possibly LSD, possibly that Wonder loaf he did, possibly his ego) starts to kick in, and things quickly turn Katrina for Cocker.
