You don't like that, do you, Mr. Undead Marine! RRRRRR!'"

6-22-08 Blue Man Group – Drumbone

Posted by Sean on June 22, 2008

Sorry about not posting. This weekend has been a bit crazy, and the last thing on my mind was blogging. Thanks to Shanoah for holding down the fort while I was gone. You certainly didn’t have to, and it’s a credit to you that you did.

Anyway, continuing the Blue Man Group thread from yesterday (and to keep down the WFMU-to-post ratio a bit)… I once saw Blue Man Group when they were a house act at the Luxor several years back. I leave their artistic merit, or lack of it, to be pondered and fought over by those better equipped for such discussions. All I know is that I enjoyed the show, I enjoyed how it looked and felt, and I loved the music.

If I’m going to post Blue Man Group, then I guess I’ll start with one of their best known song: Drumbone. This a rather clever piece played on a PVC pipe called (what else?) a “drumbone”, which they describe thusly:

The Drumbone is a percussive spin-off of a trombone. Its sliding tube-within-a-tube design allows it to be lengthened and shortened during a performance, thus creating a variety of pitches. It can also be taken apart and used as two separate instruments which harmonize with each other. The song “Drumbone” which can be found on Blue Man Group’s debut album, Audio, is a crowd favorite. The song and piece is played in all four theatrical productions of Blue Man Group and it is also featured on The Complex Rock Tour.

This was recorded at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel here in Las Vay Gaaaaas.

More will be coming when I work up the energy for them. Like I said, things have been a little crazy around here.
