6-18-08 Downtown

Posted by Sean on June 18, 2008

Not much time today. So I’ll leave that What the Fuck for later.

Anyway, my job is at a “historical documents” store. Of course, our definition of “historical” is a bit broad. I’ll bet you never guessed that a John Hale baseball card or a Linda Lovelace nudie photo was a historical document, didja! Well, now you do.

Well, I was working on an autograph album page signed by Petula Clark today… and how can you think about Petula Clark without thinking about her 1964 hit Downtown? (I could, apparently. I didn’t know she sang this until I started researching her) Always liked this song.

And who can think of Downtown without thinking about Mrs. Miller’s enthusiastic and… enthusiastic cover? According to Mrs. Miller’s World, this song was the first in the (very small four-cylinder-firing-on-three) music juggernaut of the late 1960s that was Mrs. Miller.

I actually like Mrs. Miller’s version of the song. Her heart’s into it, which is something that you can’t say about all artists. Plus, come on, how can you heckle someone that looks like your grandmother?

Equally enthusiastic one-take music video courtesy of SheldonLefkowitz.
