Dr Moreau

A pickle surprise? Bizarre. As far as what the muffins have to do with it, Sean, I can only presume that the pickle is stuck in them.

Today, I’d been thinking about one of the classic mad scientist novels, The Island of Dr. Moreau. A mad biologist turning animals into men, it’s a theme of biological tampering that has been revisited again and again, and is a book (and movie) that deserves it’s place next to Frankenstein and Dracula in the mad scientists bookshelf.

It’s been forever since I’ve read it, of course. But I was interested to note references to it when browsing through music:

No Spill Blood – Oingo Boingo

This song is just awesome. And its based off of a conversation in the Island of Dr. Moreau. Though I have to wonder about him grabbing the guitarist like that. Great style here, anyways.

Jocko Homo – Devo

Do you know what the next line in the conversation was from “No Spill Blood”?

“Are we not men?”

Though, not being Devo, they obviously didn’t give the same reply. But then, it would have totally changed the story if the animal men on Moreau’s Island were Devo, so it’s excusable…
