Your What the FUCK for 5-27-08

Posted by Sean on May 27, 2008

Well, the good news is that John McCain won’t be elected. The bad news is that Hillary is going to accept the Antichrist as her Anti-Savior and bring about the Rapture.

It’s true! The Bible sort of tells me so! Or, to be more exact, the Bible sort of tells the good folks at so.

Oh, and Bush is going to launch an invasion of Iran in May of 2008. (Only four more days to go, George! C’mon! Get with the self-fulfilling prophecy!)

But, hey, at least Osama I mean Obama is going to be assassinated. The uptighty whitey Republicans have at least have that silver lining: the Lord of Flies has risen from the pit and is munching on Cleveland, but at least the half-breed with the Muslim name isn’t president! I mean, could you imagine having a young, energetic black man in the Oval Office instead of another out-of-touch doughy old white guy? It’ll be wacky.

I’m sure that Shanoah would love to comment on Bible codes like this. You know you want to, Shanoah… Give in… Give in to the diabolical urge…

5-27-08 Ferenc Rofusz – The Fly

Posted by Sean on May 27, 2008

Wish I knew how to follow up on the Firefly posts, but I don’t.

So I’m going waaaaaaaay back in the blog archives – back to my first neat thing post, in fact. In that post, I told you about Hungarian animator Ferenc Rofusz. Well, on a recent hunch (because I was starving for something to post about), I did a search for for Rofusz on YouTube and found one of his shorts, The Fly.

The Fly won an Academy Award in 1981, way way waaaaaay before CGI animation as we know it. Keep that in mind as you watch it.

You know, somehow that does make sense. Fox is going to cancel it anyways, so they might as well get a head start. And, yeah, I enjoyed Firefly. Intelligent Science Fiction, and character depth. And a theme song that hooked me from the beginning, like so:

Firefly Tribute

This actually has both the original theme song, and an expanded Filk version of it by Michelle Dockery from Escape Key, Mal’s Song. But I’m usually one for the underdog, and having a character that has lost a war, his home, and his way of life, but will still keep going, whatever they do to him appeals to me.

And really this is all about freedom. So, I may as well play another song or two about freedom.

Free As A Bird – Beatles

So, of course, here’s the haunting “Free As A Bird” song by the Beatles. Haunting simply because it is essentially the remaining Beatles playing with a recording of an old tape demo that John Lennon did before his death. Hmmmm… Everything’s making me think of the Beatles lately, isn’t it? How about some Janis Joplin?

Me and Bobby McGee – Janis Joplin

The connection, naturally being “Freedom’s just another word from ‘Nothing left to lose'”. Which is naturally, another key theme from Firefly. Not that I’m trying desperately to tie everything together or anything… 🙂
