5-24-08 Yoann Lemoine – Evergreen

Posted by Sean on May 24, 2008

Well, I know I told you I was going to do a Weird Al Yankovic post today. But I think I’m going to hold that off for tomorrow.

The reason is that your th movie in your post “Angst” was featured on YouTube by the same people who did one of the movies in the birthday post I made for you, aniBoom (YouTube channel here). I poked around their channel and came up with your neat thing for today (from me, at least): Evergreen, by Yoann Lemoine (MySpace here).

I’ve always had a thing for deer and their grace, their gentleness and their dignity. Maybe that’s why I never became a hunter, and it’s probably why this movie touched me.

Nothing elaborate today, I just thought I’d share an animation I found:

From the day André was born, he got harassed by the wind, which resulted in a fear of it.
Director: Emiel Penders

And for everyone thinking “That’s not really what angst means”, angst is also German for fear, which is the defining characteristic of this cartoon. This just seemed very metaphorical and touching, even if the first section was a bit long. I think the stark simplicity of the animation style really adds to the animation, as well. All and all, though, just a cute, sentimental cartoon about a boy and his dog.
