5-4-08 ISIS – Dulcinea

Posted by Sean on May 4, 2008

So I was poking around YouTube looking for something – anything – to put up today, when I came across this claymation from EverythingPermitted. It’s a music video for ISISDulcinea, off 2006’s In the Absence of Truth, and EverythingPermitted claims its his/her/its/their first attempt at a claymation and at a music video. I’m impressed.

Melanie

Posted by shanoah on May 4, 2008

Thought I’d do a post on a musician that, well, I don’t own any albums of, but I’ve always liked. For some reason, I never see albums by her in the stores, though. She was probably best known in the 70’s, titled on her albums simply as Melanie.

Her actual name is Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk, and, amazingly enough, she has released 33+ albums. Almost one a year, in fact. You probably best know her for this song, though:

Brand New Key

See what I mean? You’re bound to have heard this song at some point. And she has a unique, rather distinctive voice. If you’d believe it, some radio stations interpreted the lyrics as sexual innuendo, and banned it at the time it was released (1972). The Wurzels also did an interesting takeoff on it (“Combine Harvester”), but I may post that at some point, so I won’t go too far into it.

Look What They’ve Done To My Song, Ma

Here’s another song you’re likely to recognize, as it’s been covered multiple times. I particularly like the “Look what they done to my brain” verse. (But then, I would…) And I’d love a good book to live in…

Beautiful People

This just plain is a beautiful song. “You may be beautiful people too”. Classic.

Animal Crackers

All right, I just think this ones fun. Apparently, she was told that eating Animal crackers helps starving children in Africa, and took it to heart.
