5-2-08 Otaku of the world, rejoice!

Posted by Sean on May 2, 2008

(Note to self: Maybe I shouldn’t have posted this so soon after Shanoah’s LSD post…)

So I’m looking for a song for today’s post and I happen across something called “Untooning Jessica Rabbit”. Now, I must admit that I have a thing for Jessica Rabbit, so I clicked on it.

This is why “Untooning Jessica Rabbit” is your neat thing today. This is the first hour of the process, sped up by six to fit into 10 minutes. (By the way, the guy/girl/entity/multipersonality hivemind behind this, pixeloo, put this up on April 21, less than two weeks ago… and it’s already gotten over 300,000 views)

For those of you with no patience…

Jessica Rabbit Untooned

Now if they’d only¬†untoon La Blue Girl, huh?

By the way, this isn’t the first toon that Pixeloo has untooned. Accoring to his/her/its/their blog, he/she/it/they have also done Homer Simpson and Mario from Mario Brothers. It’s an interesting exercise, and shows just how deformed cartoon characters really are (especially Homer… yeesh). Michael Paulus did something similar when he tried to reproduce the skeletal systems of famous cartoon characters. The results are… interesting.

Interestingly, out of all the characters untooned by Paulus and Pixeloo, Jessica Rabbit comes out looking the least deformed (at least from the neck up. From the neck down, well…). The eyes are a little big, the lips a little pouty and the eyes a little elfin, but I wouldn’t kick her out of bed. I guess we guys like it strange, but not too strange… which is probably why Pixeloo stopped just above Jessica’s bust.

On that note, Pixeloo is apparently going to untoon Stewie Griffin from Family Guy next. That’s right, Stewie the original hydrocephalitic baby. To mangle Stephen Lynch: “Damn, that’ll be an ugly baby!

Stoned Soul

Posted by shanoah on May 2, 2008

You know, I actually quite like Tomorrow Never Knows. But then, I do generally like the Beatles, together and individually.

As it happens, I own a Sony 100 years of music collection – 100 songs for 100 years, and the three songs I picked today are all right from the same time period from that collection; the era of peace and free love. And LSD:

San Fransisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)

Scott McKensie (written by John Phillips of the Mamas & Papas)

This song sums up the 60’s pretty well. San Fransisco, home of hippies, peaceniks, drugs and free love. And Ghirardelli chocolate, which I’ll admit to having a weakness for. This song was apparently also widely played in Czechoslovakia in the 1968 Prague uprising against the Soviets. Don’t blame them; I’d rather be in San Fransisco then under Soviet rule, too…

Stoned Soul Picnic – Laura Nyro

I’ll admit to having gotten this stuck in my head more then once. I’m not sure why, but this song is one of those ones that is so upbeat, it hard not to go with it. Besides, how can you go wrong, singing about Sassafras, Moonshine, and Celery? Good singer; strangely enough, her best selling single was Carole King & Gerry Goffin singing “Up On the Roof”.

Red Rubber Ball – Cyrkle

Here we are with a band that’s so well known, that no one remembers who they are. Not sure if they ever got another hit, actually[1]. I seem to recall John Lennon actually gave them the idea for their band name, though.

[1] I stand corrected; they had another hit named “Turn Down Day“.
