Sean Daily is an English major from New Jersey now living in Las Vegas, the Other City of Lights. "I consider 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' to be comfort reading, I like the al pastor tacos at Tacos Mexico and I count among my literary influences the Chainsaw from 'Doom'. 'RRRRRR! You don't like that, do you, Mr. Undead Marine! RRRRRR!'"
Shanoah Alkire is our Discordian at large. "Born in Santa Cruz, I grew up in Grass Valley and the Bay Area, and now lurk in Las Vegas. My literary influences include Ray Bradbury,
Lewis Carroll, and Douglas Adams. I also program as a hobby,
and currently maintain the Gtk port of Angband. You can find
a rather old bio of me here."
Well, I expect Sean’ll be occupied for a bit, so I’ll go themeless for a little while.
Back in 2008, I posted Darcy Nair singing a song called Bonnie Lassie, and I mentioned it was written by Tony Cuffe.
Well, since then, I’ve actually bought the Tony Cuffe album it was on. His version’s very good. But, as it happens, the only song Tony Cuffe sings that’s on youtube is the title track of that album, Sae Will We Yet. So I thought I’d play that.
And he’s not referring to a drug deal in the first line of the song. “crack” in context is entertaining conversation. Or something like that.
Not sure how long we can stay on zombies, so just to get things rolling again, since there haven’t been any posts in a few days, I thought I’d post something totally unrelated. No yoga involved. Don’t think I can claim the musicians as Zombies, either. Shining Happy Zombies Holding Hands? Nah, we’ve done enough REM here for the moment.
In any case, I thought I’d play a song by the Who named Happy Jack. This is the official music video for it, featuring some thieves, some cake, and a policeman.
You can go have brain damage if you want, Shanoah. But if I’ve got to be a braineater, I’m gonna do the shambling undead abomination thing. That’s right, I’m gonna be a zombie.
Well, you know, if people try to eat your brains, you’re likely to end up with Brain Damage.
Which, of course, brings us back to Pink Floyd. As it happens, I have played Brain Damage on the blog before, but that was back in 2008, so I think I can risk repeating it. Besides, that was with Douglas Adams, and this is a different concert, so it’s more as you’d normally hear it.
Let’s see here. We’ve gone from mothers to mother love to mother *ucking on this blog. You realize it’s only a matter of time before we turn into crazy incestuous hillbilly cannibals with a talent for killing hot college girls in highly creative ways. Yep, I’ve seen the movies. We’re going to turn into braineaters.
Courtesy of JackrabbitMcGee, who is officially, forever and for aye, a Misfits fan. Anyone can take some video editing software and marry their favorite anime to their favorite song. But when you animate your own video for a song, even if it’s just rough pencils… well, my friend, you have indeed proven your dedication to your band, and it’s the kind of dedication that makes suicide vests possible.
Well, this theme seems to be going from a mother tribute theme to a mother *ucking theme, so, as such, I thought I’d contribute this song. The unforgettable duo, Flight of the Conchords, came up with a song with the name Mother *uckers that I thought would be appropriate. Or inappropriate, as the case may be.
Lots of amusing things going on in this video. But there always are with these guys. Video courtesy of Reasonist42, btw.
Continuing our tribute to motherhood, here’s a passionate and heart-rending song from Freddie Mercury and Queen that’s guaranteed to make you go “Ewwwwwww”. It’s Mother Love and it’s wrong, so very wrong on so many levels.
Oh, of course I know about how Sinead O’ Connor ripped up the Pope’s picture and will burn burn burn. It’s one of the reasons I like her. (You know, wonder what the Terminator movies would have been like if they had Sinead O’ Connor instead of Sarah Connor?)
But I’ll continue with the Mother theme by reposting a song I posted previously, back in 2008. But it’s a good one, so it deserves the repost. In this case, I’m going to post a song by John Lennon, appropriately titled Mother. And this is the other song I think of when I hear the song title Mother, really.
Of course, his son Julian then grew up with father issues, but that’s another story.
