3-2-09 Adventures! In! Dentistry!

Posted by gavortnik on March 2, 2009

Well, I’m back from Mesa, AZ. My brother Brian had designed and built the scenery for a production of Oedipus Rex at Maricopa Community College. The director had made the interesting decision to dress everyone up like they were extras in The Road Warrior, which means Brian had to design a set that included a shot-up concrete bunker and decorated in Early Marilyn Manson. Needless to say, he pulled off this odd assignment with grace and aplomb… if the words “grace” and “apolmb” can be applied to shot-up concrete bunkers. Anyway, while we’re waiting for Shanoah’s post… I had to have one of my back teeth pulled today. I could have gotten a root canal. But I live in the land of no dental insurance. Root canals are $1,400-plus. Extractions are $30.

Suddenly that $634 billion for health care in the 2009 federal budget doesn’t look so bad.

I’d like to point out that my dentist is a consummate professional and dealt with the extraction and a sudden bout of The Fear that I had when the pliers clamped down on my tooth as swiftly, skillfully and painlessly as possible… unlike Tim Conway on The Carol Burnett Show.
