Sean Daily is an English major from New Jersey now living in Las Vegas, the Other City of Lights. "I consider 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' to be comfort reading, I like the al pastor tacos at Tacos Mexico and I count among my literary influences the Chainsaw from 'Doom'. 'RRRRRR! You don't like that, do you, Mr. Undead Marine! RRRRRR!'"

a rather old bio of me here."
Well, continuing our drunken stagger through pop culture today, here’s a nice discordant wrench from Tom Lehrer: Holiday in Cambodia, off of 1980’s Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. God, I love this song, if only for those jingle-jangle guitars. I mean, who knew surf rock could be so damn political?
This footage was shot live at Target Studios, with Jello Biafra as a zygote, and the guitars sound even better here than on the studio-produced album. It’s interspersed with footage from what I hope is The Killing Fields. Some of it, alas, probably isn’t.
(And yes, I’ve had Holiday in Cambodia here and here before. So sue me. You can’t. Neener neener neener)
Well, I’m not really sure where to go from Lolly Lolly either, so we’re in good company. I considered the “lick-the-lolly” song, but good taste prevailed.
And so, I naturally, decided to play songs by a musician who wouldn’t possibly offend anyone. I’m speaking, of course, of Tom Lehrer.
I Hold Your Hand In Mine
Who can possibly take offense at a tender romantic ballad like this?
All right, you didn’t all have to raise your hand there. I get the idea.
We’ll All Go Together When We Go
As Tom Lehrer says, “a rousing, uplifting song that is guaranteed to cheer you up.” Really.
National Brotherhood Week
And I thought I’d finish this post up with a rousing song of tolerance.
