8-8-08 Santogold – Get It Up (Radioclit Remix with DJ Diplo, M.I.A. and Gorilla Joe)

Posted by gavortnik on August 9, 2008

Now, I know I was supposed to write a little something about the opening of the Olympics, which are just the biggest and most importantest sponsor-fueled spectacle in the history of the freaking universe. (I understand the virgin sacrifice was very nice, although there were some minor glitches during the ceremonial lighting of the Library of Congress. Nero was not pleased) But I kinda slept through the opening ceremonies and, uh, my homework ate my dog and… yeah.

I don’t consider it a complete loss. I’m sure people will be nice enough to update me on the events during the next couple of weeks – after chanting “U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A!” in my face for a full five minutes, that is. (You respond, “Aren’t you patriotic, sir!” And I reply, “I am patriotic. What I am not is an asshole.” Seems to be some confusion on that point lately…) Perhaps I will get into the Olympic Spirit by buying some K-Y Jelly, which I understand is the Official “Intimate” Lubricant of the Olympics.

Besides, if I focus on the Olympics, I shall be remiss in reporting another item that is, if possible, even more epochal than the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, and that is the Radioclit mix of Get It Up by DJ Diplo and Santogold. Trust me, if you listen to this mix, you’ll see why it’s more important than any mangy old Olympics.

I haven’t listened to the original, unmixed version of Santogold’s Get It Up yet. What I can tell you is that DJ Diplo’s mix – off the mixtape Top Ranking: A Diplo Dub and with an appearance from M. I. A. and heavy samples of Gorilla Joe’s Hood Nigga – is without a doubt a masterpiece.

Billy Jam dropped Get It Up on WFMU’s Put the Needle on the Record today, after another excellent Top Ranking track: Tony Matterhorn’s Big Belly Guns. I heard Big Belly Guns and I thought, “Oo, I need to get that.” Then I heard Get It Up and I said, “Oo, I really need to get that.”

Now, I’m going to try something a little different today. There’s no video up for Get It Up yet. However, I did find a free MP3 download for it at Pretty Much Amazing. Grab it before the omnipresent and omniprescient “they” tear it off of the series of tubes.

Pretty Much Amazing (MP3 No. 1 or No. 2)

Oh, and we’ll be back to the political stuff tomorrow. I Promise. I’m Sean Daily And I Approved This Message.
