Funny you should bring up Jesus, Shanoah… or as some people call him, Jah-HAY-huh-zus.
I was poking around YouTube for a song from Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy called Famous and Dandy (Like Amos and Andy), which I’d heard on Bronwyn C’s excellent WFMU show Killing Time with Bronwyn C. Didn’t find it.
But I did, for some reason, find this. It’s I’m Going Straight to Heaven from MC 900 Foot Jesus (“900 FOOT JESUS VS. MECHAGODZILLA!” “Jesus! Use Giant Jesus Punch!”) off 1989’s Hell with the Lid Off.
And before you atheists start running for the hills, making sounds reminiscent of Donald Sutherland at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, let me say that this has almost nothing to do with Christianity. I think.

Christ! (Exclamation, not invocation!)
I bumped into this because I was looking at a photo of heat waves on a girl drying her hair, and the words “Heaven with the lid off!” popped into my head. I thought, wait, that’s not it, googled and came across this. God how I loved this record! I was living in Miami Beach at the time, and used to dance to it in the middle of the night on my balcony, listening on my headphones.
I can’t believe it’s bloody 20 years ago! I doubt Mr. Griffin can, either!
