4-4-08 MIA – Paper Planes
Posted by gavortnik on April 4, 2008
Heard this on WFMU’s excellent Killing Time with Bronwyn C today. It’s Paper Planes from MIA (aka Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam), and it’s your neat thing today. (By the way, don’t click on that link to MIA’s site if you have epilepsy)
Thanks to worldmoon for putting this up.
And now… the fan videos! Here’s a puzzling little video entitled “M.I.A – Paper Planes and How to Field Strip an AK47″. It’s a little repetitious, but it has it’s moments. Thanks to bommomma for putting this up.
Even more puzzling is this boyfriend/girlfriend duo lipsynching the song, entitled Me and Maya. diplo1978 wrote in the “About” section, “look how cute we were”. Pardon me while I go dry heave.
I like the boyfriend, though. He’s just trying to make the best of a bad situation: “Okay, embarassing myself in front of the world on YouTube has got to be worth at least one knob job.”
Here’s one by dapantsparty. This one’s notable because it looks like these two actually rehearsed; they’re very confident, no hesitancy. And the heavyset girl knows how to dance.
But I still don’t get the part with the ship’s wheel.
LightRayFace pulled out the video-editing software and public domain footage – not to mention some scenes from Loose Change – for his fan video. Sez LRF: “I put together this video mash up because the music video for Paper Planes was commercialized and dumbed down. This is what I saw in my head while listening to this song.”
And lastly, here’s aisfuhanna, making like rock starz™, complete with rad sunglasses, on the webcam in their car (?). aisfuhanna writes: “This is what happens when you are stuck in traffic on the 91. You make up choreo for songs by MIA.”
So they were driving when they made this. Great…

diplo1978 is the producer of the song, and the girl in the video is m.i.a. herself.

My apologies. But I stand by what I said: “Pardon me while I go dry heave.”
